I was inspired at a young age by my time as a volunteer at the San Luis Obispo Child Development Center, which runs a care and treatment program for young children. Since 1993, I have studied and worked with children of special needs in a variety of roles. I am committed to creating opportunities for growth in a safe, nurturing environment. I currently work with a number of clients in the Seattle area.
In 2010 when the Apple iPad (http://www NULL.apple NULL.com/ipad/) was released, I was bowled over by the potential of this (and similar tablets) to aid in the education of children with special needs. It is lighter and easier to manipulate than previous generations of dedicated assistive / augmentative speech devices. It is capable of performing numerous functions, with new educational apps appearing almost daily. And its “coolness” factor makes it easier for kids to socialize in their peer groups.
I understand that there is often a lot of trepidation around adopting new technologies. As an early adopter myself, I am pleased to be able to work with parents and educators of children with special needs, and help guide them through this evolving new world.
